Hi! I’m Weng.
Thank you for visiting. This is the companion blog for my Instagram account, Wengs_culinary_adventures.
Just a little bit about me. I was born in Malaysia but grew up in Perth, Western Australia. Since graduating from medical school in Perth, I have had the privilege of living in some of the most beautiful cities in the world, including Sydney, where I worked as a family physician, and Hong Kong, where I worked as a university academic teaching medical students and a mental health researcher. In August 2019, our family moved to New York, and I became a full-time stay-at-home mum for the first time.
I firmly believe cooking for yourself and others can be a therapeutic experience. In March 2020, our lives dramatically changed when NYC became the global epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic, and home-cooked meals became necessary.
My culinary journey started with “lockdown cooking”, experimenting with simple dishes and comfort foods, particularly those from my upbringing in Malaysia and Australia, and Cantonese cuisine from Hong Kong.

What began as a way for me to share recipes on social media quickly became a means of connecting with and encouraging friends and family to search for meal ideas during the pandemic lockdowns.
It was incredibly fulfilling to share what I was cooking and help others during such a challenging time.
Surprisingly, my Instagram account grew to over 30,000 followers—something I never anticipated, especially since I was simply sharing my cooking journey.
A New Mission: Empowering Better Nourishment
As I continue on my culinary adventures, I’ve realised that food is not just about comfort—it’s about nourishing our bodies in a way that supports long-term wellness. I have recently developed a strong interest in using food to promote personal, public, and planetary health. This has led me to dive deeper into nutrition, learning about the science behind food and its impact on our bodies, especially the microbiome.
What You’ll Find Here
I aim to blend practical cooking advice and evidence-based nutrition insights. Here’s what you can expect:
Delicious and Nutritious Recipes: I believe in the power of food to heal and nourish. My recipes are designed to bring flavour and health together in one meal. I am not a recipe creator, so none of my recipes are original, but I will explain why I chose a recipe and share my insights, tweaks or enhancements.
Nutrition Tips and Insights: I’ll share knowledge on how different foods contribute to health, including the latest nutritional research and how to incorporate it into everyday meals.
Empowerment Through Knowledge: I want to help individuals make better-informed choices about what they eat, understanding not just the “how” but also the “why.”
Whether you’re looking to boost your health, improve your relationship with food, or simply enjoy delicious meals that are good for you, I aim to educate and share recipes, tips, and evidence-based advice to promote culinary creativity and nutritional wisdom.
Let’s explore the world of food and nourishment together!
Warmly,
Weng
